Smartie Lids On The Beach

Michelle is a Cornish beach cleaner and since the storms of 2014 she has been creating art from the plastics she finds on the strandlines of her local beaches.
She hopelessly addicted to beach-combing and passionate about wildlife. From this came a desire to take the plastic she finds and create unique art that will become a talking point in people’s homes, raising awareness of the problem of plastic in our oceans.
Michelle's ranges include colour wheels, kingfishers, sea birds and seedheads all created from washed up plastic and lost fishing rope. Each piece of marine debris is picked up by hand, then washed and dried ready to be transformed into a unique framed creation which has its own story.
She has also begun to weave tiny intricate baskets, using an ancient method, from lost fishing rope that washes up around the coast.
Each piece of plastic removed from the beach is one less threat to our precious marine life.
